Ski Resort Wedding | Julie & Dusty

She gingerly gathered the skirt of her wedding dress up in her hands, revealing a bright red crinoline underneath. She held it up high, looked forward into the snow and with determination set on her face, waded forward in three feet of snow. Her groom stood several feet ahead of her by a grouping of snow-festooned evergreens. He laughed as he held out an umbrella to shield her from the falling flakes. She stomped her feet as she came to his side, releasing her gown and smoothing the skirt. ”Well you wanted snow” he said, mocking a bit. Over twenty inches had fallen that morning. ”I did. And it’s wonderful!” she exclaimed, beaming from ear to ear. She looked up at her husband to be - there were snowflakes gathering on his eyelashes. This was exactly how she had always pictured it.

Julie grew up down the street from a ski resort. It’s the place where she spent her days as a child in the arcade and swooshing down the mountain, where she worked as a young adult teaching others to ski. Big Powderhorn Mountain in Michigan’s Big Snow Country holds a very special place in Julie & Dusty’s hearts. A place now gilded in gold and tied with ribbon, since it is now the place they got married too.
When you think of a destination wedding, you don’t often picture feet of snow. But that is exactly what we got for this destination wedding. And it was tremendously fun. If you are going to get married in the winter, you should have big, fluffy, feathery flakes to accessorize with.

I have to give a little shout out to this couple – Liz and Mark – I’ll be shooting their wedding in Detroit this summer.

So beautiful, Molly. And what a great assistant you had–he’s a good umbrella holder! : )
This is absolutely STUNNING!! What a neat idea for a wedding – and what perfect weather for it! You did an amazing job on ALL of the photos… The outdoor shots by the ski lift are absolutely beautiful (cool!) and the indoor shots capture a lovely ambiance.
Beautiful. Love all the red. I often think that if I got to do it all over again (with hubby of course), that I would do a winter wedding.
