Today is your first Father’s Day.
12 years ago I met a boy who became my boyfriend, that boyfriend became my long-time (and long-distance) boyfriend, and that boyfriend asked me to marry him, and then that fiancé became my husband, and now my husband has also become the father of my child. I keep a picture of you on my desk from you Senior year of high school – it’s roughly what you looked like when we met. In my mind and heart, it’s still what you look like. I’m looking at that picture and thinking about that boy who is now the man who snuggles our daughter to sleep, over a decade later. That transformation blows my mind.
The truth is you were always that father. I saw it in you from the very beginning, and it’s one of the many reasons I love you. We both come from devoted, caring and wonderful examples of fatherhood. Dads who did everything to be the best they could for us. I’m so excited for Baby Girl to have the sort of relationship with you that I’ve had with my Dad over the years. I know that with the examples set by our fathers you will far surpass that goal.
That boy and that girl had a baby. It’s amazing what we’ve created – not just our daughter, but also our family. And there is no one I’d rather be on this adventure with.
Happy Father’s Day!
